The whole purpose, to an extent, of social media tools is connection:  how do I find people to connect to, and how do I  connect to them?  Most of us would probably admit that we don't like to sell that much-but hanging out with our friends and chatting about nothing we can do all day.  Why not combine the two, and make a buck at the same time? 

Social Media tools like Facebook and Twitter enable us to find like-minded people, connect with them, gain their trust, and -oh no don't say it-market to them.  We marketers do not have to feel ashamed that we have a selfish  motive-to make business contacts and sell our goods and services to the people we like and connect with.  But if I'm really honest, I like to buy and use people who do stuff that I need who I like and trust.  I would rather hire somebody to work on my house who i connect with in a meaningful way, rather than try to trust my instinct about a first time meeting.

That's why Social Media tools are so effective for marketing-we end up trying to work with people we know and trust.  Use these 10 steps to build your Facebook friend list with some people who are in your target market.
